Hello. I have a Lenovo Ideapad, just a couple years old. It's 64-bit Win10. I've had very few issues with it until now. I was going through closing windows so I could run some games (it's got 6GB RAM so I try not to run games like Overwatch with a bunch of other things open). But when I saved an art piece I had open in SAI then hit X, the screen froze all colorful. I could still see all the details of the screen, but fuzzy with all the jagged rainbow lines. The mouse looked normal but wouldn't move. I held down power, waited a few seconds, and powered it back on.

It started running updates, and then finished and hit the Lenovo splash screen. And then it froze with rainbow lines again. I could move the lid back and forth and the lines/colors would distort, so I thought maybe some connection was faulty, although I had not dropped or banged it.

I cut it off and restarted it again. It began to run Automatic Repair, then blue-screened. Said it would restart it for me, and gave me the error that ntfs.sys had failed. I googled that and got something about either BIOS or the harddrive running out of space? I know little abour this stuff, but I can say I haven't installed anything new lately -- aside from two Windows updates, one a few days ago, one that I mentioned earlier. Could that be part of the problem?

My last issue is now when it tries to restart, it gets stuck at the Lenovo splash screen, and never moves on. I've tried restarting to start up in safe mode or something, but it just keeps running Auto Repair, blue screening, and getting stuck at the Lenovo screen. F8, F12, ctrl+alt+delete don't work. I considered removing the battery (apparently that sometimes solves the everlasting loading screen) but the battery is covered and removing it apparently voids warranty. Frankly I'm not sure if I have warranty though. I'll have to dig out the old papers.

Basically the laptop has been fine for 2 years, suddenly crashed, tried to run an update, crashed again, blue-screens repeatedly on Auto Repair, and won't finish booting up. It seems like I'm over my head here -- any help?

Hello! Just an update here. Spoke with a Microsoft employee. She walked me through trying to trigger Advanced Recovery. When that failed because it'd bluescreen, she gave me guides on making a bootable Win10 USB. Despite verifying the USB and setting my laptop's BIOS to accept USBs that failed as well. As a last ditch effort, she told me I coud at least boot with Linux to save my files before wiping the system. It did boot with Linux but I didn't have DVDs on hand so I waited to do anything. When I powered on the laptop the next morning, it automatically scanned and repaired Drive C:, ran the interrupted Windows updates, and is now running like usual. I made a recovery point, scanned the hard disc for errors (all good), and plan to be cautious and run some checks on the mobo and RAM.

So. Problem solved? By itself somehow? When I told the Microsoft lady she said "It looks like the threat of Linux made Windows 10 behave"
